7th Annual Association Challenge - November 5, 2011

So, is Winnipeg on a roll, or what???

The 7th Annual event between the Brandon, Dauphin and Winnipeg Bowling Associations took place in Dauphin this year, at Parkway Lanes.  And for the third year in a row, the Winnipeg Association won this epic battle, thereby holding on to the coveted plaque for another 12 months (at least).  Awesome!

For those of you keeping score, Dauphin has won it 3 times, Winnipeg has now won it 3 times, and Brandon has won it once.

This event is a fun way for these separate Manitoba bowling associations to get together, have a good time, communicate with each other, and, what else, bowl!  Each association enters two teams of 4 bowlers (mixed teams) and we all bowl 5 games.  The association that has the highest total pinfall plus handicap after the 5 games is declared the winner.

Hard to believe, but amongst the 24 competitors, 3 of them were celebrating their birthdays on that very day. What are the odds??  Wanda Howard, the President of the Winnipeg association, had brought a big cake with her to help celebrate the special day.  Happy Birthday wishes to Ron Molinski, Patricia Wight, both from Winnipeg, and to Ralph Piasta, of Dauphin.

Ron Molinski wanted to mention that he didn't drive this year. Wanda did.  This meant that the Winnipeg crew was not late getting to Dauphin (no unexpected detours like Ron took 3 years ago), and in fact, they arrived at the lanes even before the Dauphin folks did!  Ron also said "Boy, does she drive fast!"  We have to take this with a grain of salt, because Ron's a senior citizen, and Wanda isn't.  Everything looks faster to an old guy!
After that "shot", I should also mention that apparently, Ron was one of the keys to Winnipeg's success this year, bowling WAY OVER HIS AVERAGE!  Way to go Ron!

A big "Thank You" to Ralph and the Dauphin association, along with Frank Scinocca, the proprieter of Parkway, for a great tournament, and a super barbecued steak dinner with all the fixin's following the bowling.  Well done!

Next year, the association challenge will be back in Winnipeg.  They'll be trying to defend their title on home "turf".
